US LLC for Non-Residents: What It Does, What It Costs, What It Does Not Do

The internet is full of videos promising a "0% tax US LLC" for non-residents.

Here is the half they skip: an LLC is transparent by default. Its income flows through to you, and the country where you live taxes it under its own rules.

A US LLC is not a tax trick for a Canadian or UAE resident.

It is a tool that works brilliantly in the right structure and creates filing obligations in the wrong one. The formation itself costs from $500 plus state fees, needs a registered agent and an EIN, and can usually be done without ever visiting the US. I set up the LLC properly, and I check what it means in YOUR country before you commit.

Who this is for, and who it is not

This fits you if:

  1. You sell to US customers, through e-commerce, SaaS or services, and need a US entity for payments, platforms or credibility

  2. You are building a structure where a US entity sits alongside UAE or Canadian companies

  3. You live outside the US and want the formation AND the home-country tax picture handled together

Probably not, if:

  • You are chasing the "US LLC means no tax anywhere" idea. I will show you what it actually triggers where you live, and sometimes the answer is "do not".

FAQ

Yes. Non-residents form US LLCs routinely. The formation is the easy part. The reporting and the home-country tax treatment are where you need advice.

The LLC itself may owe no US tax in some setups, but its income is taxed where you are resident. "Tax-free" claims that skip that half are how people end up with clean US paperwork and a problem at home.

LLC for flow-through simplicity. C-Corp when investors, retained profits or specific treaty positions call for it. The wrong default is expensive to unwind, so ask before, not after.
